Thank you for your interest in joining our program!

We are a high level training, showing, and breeding operation that specializes in the natural and careful care and cultivation of our dogs.  Our competitions range from conformation to hunt tests and everything in between, as well as national competitions.  We have Labrador Retrievers, German Shepherd Dogs, Australian Shepherds, and Border Collies primarily along with a wide variety of client dogs routinely in our care.  Drachten dogs can be found across the country performing working, service, and therapy work as well as being excellent companions and performance dogs for their owners.  There are plenty of opportunities to increase your skills as a trainer, groomer, handler, and breeder by working with our program as well as increasing your knowledge of business and how to run a growing company utilizing many software and internet options.

All of our employees at this time are required to do an unpaid working student type position to make sure that our program is a good fit for them as we move forward.  These range from 3-12 months and while everyone is expected to help/be able to help in the routine facility chores, we do offer specialization to people interested in veterinary medicine, training, and puppy raising at this time.  Your first three months are spent learning our kennel management routine as well as caring, grooming, and doing some basic work with our trainer and veterinarian.  After that we increase the opportunities for attending shows and clinics, helping in a veterinary clinic with reproductive services, puppy whelping/raising, and much more.  Despite being an unpaid position, the knowledge and experience that you learn is priceless and can lead towards becoming an industry professional (or increasing your current position) in training or veterinary medicine, excellent hands on veterinary opportunities, dog trainer certification with CCPDT, and may more career opportunites.  We also offer $10/hour CREDIT that can be applied to any services we offer (not products) including training, veterinary, and trial handling skills.  Our farm also has a FEI/CDI (international) level dressage rider and trainer on it with several excellent school horses so the credit can be applied towards riding lessons, leasing horses (excluding care costs), boarding, and other equine services.

Some of the personal requirements of our workers include:
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly and up to 75 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team equally well
  • Maintain no drama workplace

  • Ability to set your own schedule and stick to it without fail.  If you need to be out, it is up to you to find a replacement with another staff worker without contacting management.  Failure to adhere to this will result in termination (you're setting your own schedule so please stick to it despite upcoming exams, appointments, etc)
